The workshop
The workshop is where Fili di Sofia’s work is conceived and takes shape. It is an intimate space dedicated to artisan weaving, selecting yarns, experimenting with colour and designing one-of-a-kind pieces. A visit offers a close look at materials, samples and work in progress, and a chance to discover the process behind each creation, from the first idea to the finished textile.
The looms
The looms are at the heart of the workshop: ancient tools that remain just as relevant today. Each loom has different characteristics and is used to create different structures, sizes and yarn combinations.
Warp and weft are built one passage at a time, through a manual process that requires attention, rhythm and time. Here you can see the looms up close and discover how simple threads become surfaces, colours and structures.
Come and visit us
The workshop is in Castelmuzio, a borderland between the Val d’Orcia, Val di Chiana and the Crete Senesi. Here you will find a wide selection of pieces ready to purchase. Visits can be arranged in advance so that we can give you the time you need, show you the looms and work in progress, and tell you about materials and techniques. If you would like to discover Fili di Sofia in person, contact us to arrange a day and time.
